About Our Planter Boxes
Macrocarpa is a New Zealand-grown timber prized for its natural durability and resistance to rot and insects — without the need for chemical treatment. That makes it ideal for outdoor use, especially in planter boxes designed for growing vegetables and herbs. Unlike treated pine, which often contains chemical preservatives that can leach into the soil over time, untreated macrocarpa offers a safer, more natural growing environment for edible plants.
It’s also safer for us during the building process — no chemical dust. Just clean, beautiful timber that’s better for our health and better for the planet.
Yes. Every box is crafted by hand in our workshop. We don’t mass-produce; we focus on strength, finish, and attention to detail so your box lasts for years.
Our boxes are made from solid timber with no shortcuts. They arrive fully assembled and are lined with non-woven geotextile fabric to optimise root health and plant growth. Our planters are built to handle NZ weather and are designed to be as good-looking as they are practical.
We also offer a range of standard finishes, which means your planter box is completely ready to go when it arrives.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We use locally sourced macrocarpa, a naturally durable timber grown in New Zealand that doesn’t require chemical treatment. This makes it a safer, eco-friendly choice.
To reduce waste, we repurpose our non-usable offcuts as firewood, diverting them from landfill and giving each piece a second life. It’s all part of our commitment to doing right by the environment, our health, and our community.
Macrocarpa is a strong, durable timber. With basic care, our planter boxes will last for many years, even outdoors in all weather conditions.
Customisation, Care & Use
Yes. While we have standard sizes and finishes available, we can build custom boxes to suit patios, balconies, or large landscaping projects. Send us your requirements, and we will be in touch.
Our painted products are finished with a durable, eco-friendly finish supplied by Natural Paint Co. They are easy to care for; just wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild cleaner to keep them looking fresh.
Our natural macrocarpa pieces are finished with Natural Paint Co’s Danish oil. They will showcase the timber’s warm tones for up to a year (weather dependent). Over time, the timber may silver naturally, or you can re-coat with Danish oil to refresh its rich colour.
Yes! They arrive fully assembled and ready to use. No tools, no flat packs.
